GOOD News!
Looking for another source of information on young people in philanthropy? Check out GOOD, a new magazine from 26-year-old Ben Goldhirsh. According to the publication’s website, “GOOD, a new voice in media, embraces this generation's merger of capitalism and idealism. We provide an entertaining, thought-provoking, cultural platform for those who want to do well by doing good. We engage and challenge the people, ideas and institutions driving change in the world. Our mission is to stimulate the culture of good by creating dialogue around things that matter.” When new subscribers sign up for GOOD, the magazine is currently donating the $20 cost to one of a set group of nonprofits, as directed by the subscriber, with the goal of accumulating a $1 million gift and 50,000 subscribers. The magazine will kick off in Fall 2006; in the meantime, the magazine’s clever and frequently-updated blog should tide you over. For a full profile of Ben Goldhirsh, check out Douglas McGray's article for yesterday's edition of WEST, the Sunday magazine of the LA Times. For those of you with Wall Street Journal subscriptions, see the July 20 issue for an article about GOOD; you can see the Chronicle of Philanthropy’s take from the same day at http://philanthropy.com/news/?id=986&pth.
