Until recent headlines, the name Brooke Astor could only bring to mind grace, elegance, and philanthropy. At 104 years old Ms. Astor is now at the center of a tug-of-war among her family members. As Ms. Astor’s time passes, is there an heir apparent to fill her philanthropic shoes? Forbes.com offers some predictions.

Do charitable groups in the Middle East play a role, be it primary or secondary, in promoting terrorism? Groups masquerading as relief and social service organizations have often been linked to the finance and operation of terrorist groups and plots.

Though spending a year building houses in Central America is a rewarding and fulfilling job, it is not necessarily a feasible option for everyone. With the growing availability of the internet, opportunities to volunteer virtually have exploded in recent years. Jobs such as designing websites, translating documents, and mentoring children can all be done from the comfort of your home or office, and yet impact hundreds of thousands of lives.
