FLiP’s NYC Summer Happy Hour – July 25 at Central Bar
FLiP’s next NYC happy hour will take place on July 25 at Central Bar (109 East 9th Street – between 3rd and 4th Avenues, right off Astor Place) from 6:00-8:00pm. We will have a private space on the 2nd floor of the bar. We’d like to get a rough estimate of attendance, so if you plan on coming, please either RSVP through our Facebook group or e-mail Lyndsay Reville.
It’s been far too long since we celebrated the success of our first event.
In March, 80+ young professional fundraisers and grantmakers gathered at a midtown bar for the first ever FLiP-planned happy hour. For many of us, our jobs keep us somewhat isolated from our colleagues in the sector. Our event overcame that; dozens of connections were made and business cards flew up and back. It became clear that we are not alone in our careers. In one city alone there are hundreds (if not thousands) of young professional fundraisers and grantmakers, and yet the FLiP happy hour was the first time many of us met any of our colleagues.
The second event will feature guest speaker Charles Best, the CEO and Founder of DonorsChoose. Check out his bio here. DonorsChoose has been profiled by, well, every major news organization in the country. Charles is a standout example of a philanthropist, a fundraiser, a networker, and an extremely successful young founder in our sector.
From the DonorsChoose website:
DonorsChoose is a simple way to provide students in need with resources that our public schools often lack. At this not-for-profit web site, teachers submit project proposals for materials or experiences their students need to learn. These ideas become classroom reality when concerned individuals, whom we call Citizen Philanthropists, choose projects to fund.
